hehe....3am....that coulda been the title of the piece too but i guess ol' Batwings would be working. nice job Mark. i'm diggin the b/w. (you're not sleeping at work are you??? =0)
really great lighting and the pose is perfect. thanks for your with the Painter/PS thing. I knew it would be something simple. Thanks! and really great blog!
Thanks for posting on my blog. You do terrific work, and your digital paintings are very inspirational. Now that I have a Cintiq I'll be studying your work to see what I can learn.
Thanks for the comment, Mark! Although I was hoping I'd find your caveman on here as well - it's sweet-ola! As for that photoshop painting, I found a big picture of a rock surface that had some nice pure colours, ranging from oranges to violets. I set that layer on 'Overlay', and painted b&w on a layer underneath that. That gave me some pretty subtle and appealing hue shifts for free! Then I duplicated the rock texture layer, desaturated it, and set it to multiply over the entire painting, just to give the texture more depth in the dark areas. The actual brush I painted with was just default round. Fun to sketch that way...although it totally felt like cheating. The textures did most of the work.
Wow. Your work is unreal. I love the subtle lighting that still suggests noir but without the expected hard edges. Really effective mood illustrations!

Like Judge Dredd in 2000AD,sits around with his helmet on !! I suppose Bruce Wayne does all his bat thinking with his cowl on !
lol, looks great!!
I dig the lighting as always and what a pose!!!
one of the best batman ever!!!
(can't imagine how funny his batsignal must be!!)
Ha ha, awesome Mark :) Batman looks so pensive about his partial nudity.
hahaha!!! nice... :)
Oh how depressing!
This make me feel better about my staying up WAY too late to draw. Of course, I don't wear a cowl...most of the time.
Great concept, great execution!
Love the mood of the last two paintings. Terrific stuff, mister!
We should all choose art over sleep. You are an inspiration!
