Hey, I like this. Nice possibility for an interesting Halloween illustration. At the same time, it in some way reminds me of one of those SIGGRAPH animation shorts I saw a few years back...can't remember the name, but it's definitely the nose that makes me think of it. :)
I just got the pattern from some PS brush I made with lots of scatter and flipping and random brush strokes. Then I went to painter. It was B&W to start, but I don't always start that way. In fact, it's still rather awkward for me to get decent results with a purely tonal underpainting. Working on it, though.

This is awesome! Very cool and Halloween-soon appropriate :)
Your viking rocks too!
Just when I thought you'd never update your site ever again, I find this blog! You're one of my unwitting painting heroes man, let me tell you!
This is cool! I love the abstract design. It feels really loose and fluid.
I love how your shape the skeleton too!! Beautiful!
Wow, eerie...
blimey o'reilly.
Top stuff once again.
This all in photoshop?
Also, even with your quickies, do you favour the 'tonal / monotone thing first, then colour on top' approach?
I'e tried this, didn't get on too well, but this is surely just my meagre skills.
Keep it comin'!

These are fun explorations. I imagine they offer some pretty freeing answers. Great stuffs.
There's something really nice about the lighting on this one. What is it, Mark!? What is it!?
